Hongqiao Airport ranked
top among China's airports, handling 752,300 tons
of cargo and mail last year, according to statistics
released by the Civil Aviation Administration of
China.
A network of rail track
including a total of 11 metro lines, seven light
rail lines and three rail tracks is to be constructed
in the city, according to Shanghai Urban Planning
and Administration Bureau.
As the 10th anniversary
of the opening up of Pudong New Area draws close,
major domestic financial institutions are shifting
their Shanghai business headquarters to the Lujiazui
Financial and Trade Zone, billed as Shanghai's new
financial center.
Chongming Island, China's
third largest island, located in the estuary of
the Yangtze River at the northeast of the city,
will become the country's first location to accommodate
the trans-provincial Three Gorges immigrants.
China has ended its central
purchasing of silver and opened the silver market
for the first time since 1949. The Shanghai-based
Huatong Nonferrous Metal Trading Center has been
designed as the first market authorized to trade
in silver in the country since January 1, 2000.
A surgical procedure, which
has helped at least two men without penises to resume

Deputies to the third plenary
session of the city's 11th People's Congress have

of 3.44 million passengers traveled by train on
their services, representing a slight increase over
the same period last year.
On February 14, St Valentine's
Day, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone Customs
House confiscated 30,000 "musical" roses, worth
US$9,300, in a bid to protect intellectual property

China Eastern Airlines is
conducting examinations of its MD-90 and MD-82 aircraft
